Liberal Arts: Values in Higher Education for Ecological Civilization

October 23, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm PDT

At University of LaVerne, one of the four core values is “ethical reasoning.” Accordingly, the university “affirms a value system that actively supports peace with justice, respect of individuals and humanity, and the health of the planet and its people.” How can such values be translated into classroom learning? Can a robust liberal arts model prepare students for solving our world’s complex social and environmental problems? This workshop will employ the insights of process philosophy for developing a model of education toward ecological civilization.

Wm. Andrew Schwartz is a scholar, organizer, and social entrepreneur. He is Executive Director of the Center for Process Studies and Assistant Professor of Process & Comparative Theology at Claremont School of Theology, as well as Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of the Institute for Ecological Civilization. Schwartz specializes in putting philosophy to work for rethinking systems of society for the common good.
