SUMMARY:Interweavings: Deep Listening: Dynamic Practices and Living Texts
DESCRIPTION:How might ancient texts speak to us afresh today? Can pre–modern practices be revitalized and re-imagined to address modern concerns? \nRabbi Leila Gal Berner and Sheri D. Kling strongly believe that there is still something life-giving in both ancient texts and pre-modern practices\, and that both can come alive in dynamic ways while still being grounded in timeless wisdom. \nOnce Rabbi Berner was introduced to the Christian contemplative practice of lectio divina—a Latin phrase meaning “sacred reading”—she immediately fell in love with its ability to drop her into a living experience of biblical text. She wanted other Jews to have that same experience\, and created a uniquely Jewish expression of lectio divina that she has named Kriat Hakodesh (Reading the Holy) reflected in her book\, Listening to the Heart of Genesis: A Contemplative Path. \nSheri Kling has had similar experiences with Christian contemplative practices\, and has refashioned three of them—lectio divina\, praying with icons\, and praying with the imagination—into a transreligious practice she calls Dream Divina. While the target of contemplation in her practice is one’s individual dream and its images\, the underlying spiritual “technologies” of the Christian practices still carry the same power to reveal the presence of the Sacred. \nIn this event\, Rabbi Berner and Dr. Kling will share their own experiences with reshaping traditional practices to reawaken modern sensibilities to potentially transforming encounters with texts and with the Divine. \n\nLearn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Evolution in Divine Love
DESCRIPTION:In his newest book\, Evolution in Divine Love: The Eternal Becoming of God\, Soul\, and Matter\, Gaudiya Vaishnava monk and spiritual teacher Swami Padmanabha offers a visionary and poetic exploration of love as the dynamic power at the heart of the Divine\, soul\, and matter. Drawing from Hindu Devotional Vedanta\, psychology\, modern science\, and mystical insights from multiple traditions\, he reimagines the spiritual journey as a process of ever-deepening relationship—with the Divine\, with the world\, and with our evolving selves. \nFar from portraying divinity as distant or static\, Swami Padmanabha encourages us to see Ultimate Reality as both changeless and ever-new\, infinite and intimate\, perfect and perpetually becoming—animated by the same love that pulses through every corner of creation. Through this lens\, he invites us to view reality not as a closed system\, but as a living\, breathing process of growth\, beauty\, and co-creative transformation. \nIn this Process Pop-Up\, Swami Padmanabha will discuss the ideas in Evolution in Divine Love. Whether you’re a spiritual seeker\, interfaith explorer\, psychologist\, theologian\, or simply someone yearning to live from a deeper source\, he offers a radical invitation: to see the cosmos—and yourself—as an ever-unfolding love story. \n\nLearn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: The Death of Supernaturalism
DESCRIPTION:In Chad Bahl’s newest book\, The Death of Supernaturalism: The Case for Process Naturalism\, Chad Bahl offers a bold theological manifesto that critiques the metaphysical assumptions of supernatural theism. He demonstrates the incompatibility between the supernaturalistic worldview and the scientific worldview\, and maintains that supernaturalism perpetuates rather than solves the problems of theodicy and divine hiddenness.  \nAs a solution\, Bahl argues for a process naturalist view of God—one which sees God as relational\, persuasive and embedded within the natural world. Bahl is an emerging voice in the process theology community. In this Process Pop-Up\, we’ll explore the core ideas in this text. \nLearn More & RSVP \n\n

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Eco-Psychology\, Plant Medicine\, and the Sacred Earth
DESCRIPTION:In this exploratory webinar\, author\, educator and aspiring therapist Travis Cox will invite participants into the project that he and his colleagues are calling “Ecopsychedelics” which is a portmanteau of the words “ecopsychology” and “psychedelics”.  Travis will first introduce the discipline of ecopsychology and then give some background into the particulars of the “ecopsychedelic” project\, including some insights he gained from teaching the first ever class on Ecopsychedelics last spring. \nDuring the webinar\, Travis will invite a dialogue into what he feels is one of the most important aspects of the psychedelic experience in general\, which is certainly central to his personal conception of ecopsychedelics: the implicit or explicit invocation of worldviews.  For Travis\, this invocation is two-fold: first is the fact that\, for many if not most people\, the scientific materialist paradigm can come into question during a psychedelic experience; second is the open-question as to whether or not the “psychedelic experience” itself has a worldview. \nThis collaborative inquiry will eventually lead to a discussion of process thought\, especially as it relates to a more “modern” understanding of animism.  This workshop is for those who are interested in the intersections of ecopsychology\, plant medicines\, and ecospirituality. \n\nLearn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:World Goodwill Seminar | Envisioning a New Global Culture: The Search for Unity between East and West
DESCRIPTION:While the current phase of globalization in human affairs often uses the language of unity\, it largely reflects the prevailing culture of separation and materialism that inevitably exacerbates division. A new global culture requires a deeper era of thought\, drawing on the ancient universal values of both East and West that can guide us towards a balanced relationship between spirit and matter. \nHow can Chinese wisdom and Whitehead’s philosophy of organism help build a culture of shared humanity and hope—bridging East and West? Center for Process Studies Board Chair\, Dr. Jay McDaniel will explore this topic. Also presenting in this session of the seminar is Dr. Jack Bagby\, Assistant Professor of Philosophy\, Consciousness\, and Cosmology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. \n\nLearn More & Register

SUMMARY:Possibility Spaces in Cosmology\, Biology\, and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating webinar featuring Michael Levin (Tufts University) and George F. R. Ellis (University of Cape Town)\, moderated by Andrew M. Davis (Center for Process Studies). Together\, they will explore the curious and profound question of “possibility spaces”—those unseen domains that shape what can emerge in cosmology\, biology\, and beyond. What are these possibility spaces? How do we come to know them? In what forms do they exist—and perhaps most intriguingly\, why do they exist at all? Both Levin and Ellis have argued that possibility spaces are not merely invented\, but discovered—in some sense deeply Platonic\, yet empirically discoverable through science. This conversation will examine how such spaces bridge the domains of philosophy\, physics\, and biology\, challenging our assumptions about where science ends and metaphysics begins. Are there ethical or moral dimensions to these possibility spaces? What might they reveal about the nature of mind in nature\, and the creative unfolding of the cosmos itself? Join us for a wide-ranging dialogue at the intersection of science\, philosophy\, and the deep structure of reality. \n\nRSVP Now\n \nFeaturing\nModerator\nRSVP for this Event\n“*” indicates required fields \nURLThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.\n\nName*\n\nFirst\n\nLast\n\nEmail*\n\nEnter Email\n\nConfirm Email\n\nSign up for the Center for Process Studies Newsletter\n\nSign up for the Center for Process Studies newsletter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nDisclaimer: This event is open to the public and will be recorded. SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Psychedelics\, Religion\, and Transformation
DESCRIPTION:Ligare: A Christian Psychedelic Society works at the intersection of psychedelics\, religion\, and transformation\, taking seriously the notion that reality is relational\, dynamic\, and open to novelty. Psychedelic experiences often bring a heightened sense of interconnectedness and becoming.  In this light\, psychedelics are not merely therapeutic but serve as catalysts for deeper awareness of God’s lure toward beauty and harmony. \n\n\n\nPsychedelic experience can offer an invitation to partner with God in the regeneration of self and community. Such experiences often dissolve rigid ego-boundaries\, opening participants to new integrations and fresh possibilities. When supported by community and theological reflection\, psychedelics attune individuals to the divine order and greater wholeness. \n\n\n\nLigare understands Christianity as being supple\, innovative\, and life-affirming rather than static. By weaving contemplative traditions with psychedelic insight\, Ligare help show Christian faith as an unfolding process of becoming more fully attuned to God’s aim. \n Learn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: The God of the Growing Edge: Whitehead and Thurman on Theology\, Spirituality\, and Social Change
DESCRIPTION:In this Pop-Up\, Bruce Epperly will draw from his book The God of the Growing Edge: Whitehead and Thurman on Theology\, Spirituality\, and Social Change to explore the intersecting spiritual visions of two towering figures: Alfred North Whitehead\, the eminent philosopher and process theologian\, and Howard Thurman\, the influential African American mystic\, theologian\, and civil rights leader. Investigating these thinkers’ complementary strengths offers a timely resource for contemplative activists seeking a deeper integration of spirituality and social transformation in our turbulent times. \n\n\n\nWhitehead’s metaphysics provides a robust intellectual framework for understanding a universe of interconnectedness\, change\, and possibility\, while Thurman’s lived experience of oppression and spiritual resistance infuses this framework with prophetic urgency and practical wisdom. Together\, they offer a powerful and timely message for today’s world. Exploring this “growing edge” of faith offers a compelling path toward a more just\, compassionate\, and sustainable future. \n\n\n\nThis Pop-Up will also serve as a jumping off point for Bruce’s upcoming course with Process & Faith\, Exploring Global Mysticism through a Process Lens\, beginning May 6. \n\n RSVP at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:As We Think\, We Live: Critical Challenges for Educational Systems and Teachers | Chris Hughes
DESCRIPTION:Public education serves the needs of a country\, but what happens when those needs become too narrowly articulated\, even partisan\, and the deep learning of young people is forgotten? Deep learning shifts thinking towards the big stage of speculative philosophy and open horizons. Narrow learning pushes a selected set of possibilities. \nPROcess is a seven-session course for young people. Why do we need it? The world is on a dangerous trajectory. It is young minds that carry the thoughts for tomorrow’s actions. Students breathe in not only the subjects they are taught but also how these subjects are framed by their teachers. Subject and frame together create transformative learning. Subjects and frames are fragmented in our schools today. At the heart of Whitehead’s thinking is a healing unity. For many people a first encounter with Whitehead’s vision is a romance\, a felt sense in the body\, a shift in the ground under their feet.  Whitehead himself saw romance as the first\, and necessary\, stage of deep learning. I think we can spark such a romance in young people. PROcess is a first attempt in this direction. This session explores both the need and the how of this attempt. \n Learn More & RSVP \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: A Tale of Two Narratives: Judeo-Christian Perspectives on Creation and Salvation
DESCRIPTION:The Christian grand narrative familiar to most people in Western Christianity is a story of Fall and Redemption. Organized around Augustine’s 4th century doctrine of “original sin\,” the Fall/Redemption grand narrative begins with the concept that humankind and all of creation exist in a pervasive state of corruption from which only God in Christ can deliver them.  \n\n\n\nThere is\, however\, an earlier Christian grand narrative that emerged from ancient Jewish and Christian traditions prior to the 4th century. This grand narrative tells the story of Creation/Restoration. It focuses on the concept of divine guidance and creaturely response in creating life that enacts God’s vision to restore shalom/peace among all aspects of creation. \n\n\n\nTherefore\, Western Christianity features two grand narratives. One highlights sin and the need for redemption. The other highlights God’s earthly aim for the restoration of shalom. The narrative Christians choose to live by determines how they approach life theologically\, spiritually\, and faithfully in the moment-by-moment interactions of each and every day.  \n\n\n\nAfter giving a brief introduction to each of the narratives\, Dr. Gayle Hansen Browne will address the following topics: \n\n\n\n\nWhy the Story Christians Tell Makes a Difference\n\n\nThe Roots and Evolution of the Creation/Restoration Narrative\n\n\nThe Roots and Evolution of the Fall/Redemption Narrative\n\n\nA Comparison of Perspectives On Major Christian Themes\n\n\n\nCreation\n\n\nSin\n\n\nJudgment\n\n\nSalvation\n\n\nWhy the Story Christians Tell Makes a Difference\n\n\n RSVP at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:The Untrolling Project | Thandeka and Jennifer Jennings
DESCRIPTION:Untrolling America is a new multimedia series created by Thandeka and Jennifer Jennings as part of a grassroots initiative to unite Americans across their partisan divides and cultural war battlefields. \n\n\n\nWill they succeed? \n\n\n\nWill their series create new actions everywhere\, the kind that John B. Cobb Jr. called for in his 2024 public lecture on earthism at Peking University? Will it galvanize persons “to love the whole in its complex wholeness in a way that leads us to care about the consequences of our actions everywhere”? Will it change the way we feel\, think and act? \n\n\n\nThandeka and Jennifer will ask us to reflect on\, discuss\, and answer these questions after a screening of the first episode of Untrolling America—which John helped fund— on April 8\, 2025 on Process Explorations. \n\n Learn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Healing our Collective Pain: Whitehead\, Jung\, and Transformation | Sheri Kling
DESCRIPTION:Can we understand both cosmos and psyche in a way that promotes integration rather than fragmentation? Our present societal landscape\, particularly in the West and the United States\, is marked by fragmentation and division across multiple dimensions. Societally\, there is significant polarization. Interpersonally\, many individuals face growing loneliness and isolation. Intrapersonally\, there is a surge in antidepressant use and a clear link between early adverse experiences and adult challenges. This highlights a deep-rooted crisis in how individuals perceive their existence and connections with others.\n\nTo heal our fragmentation\, we must seek an understanding of both the cosmos and the psyche that unifies rather than divides. In this talk\, Sheri D. Kling\, Ph.D.\, will offer Whitehead and Jung as integrating resources that reveal a Reality that shows us that we matter\, we belong\, and we can experience positive change.\n\n\n\nLearn More & RSVP
