SUMMARY:Frontiers of Knowledge
DESCRIPTION:Step into a fast-moving\, mind-opening day of dialogue at the intersection of science\, philosophy\, and consciousness. Frontiers of Knowledge brings together some of the most original and influential thinkers of our time to explore how emerging discoveries are transforming our understanding of reality—and ourselves. This one-day symposium\, conceived by Candice Olson and co-produced by Aspen Public Radio\, Center for MINDS\, the California Institute of Integral Studies\, and the Mays Family Foundation\, takes place at the historic Wheeler Opera House in the heart of Aspen. \n\n\nThe day begins with Brian Swimme\, Mary Evelyn Tucker\, and Jude Currivan as they guide us through The Journey of the Universe—a sweeping story of cosmic emergence that reawakens wonder and situates humanity within a deeply interconnected\, evolving cosmos. In conversation with Candice Olson\, Bruce Damer and Matthew David Segall dive into new insights about the origin of life\, blending cutting-edge scientific hypotheses with philosophical inquiry that bridges biology and consciousness. \n\n\nAfter lunch\, Richard Tarnas and Iain McGilchrist take the stage for a compelling dialogue on the Western mind’s journey\, brain hemispheres\, and the possibilities for restoring coherence in our fractured cultural and cognitive systems. In the afternoon\, David Abram reflects on the more-than-human world and how the animate Earth invites us back into relationship\, followed by Jeff Kripal and Jake Sherman exploring revolutionary perspectives in consciousness studies that challenge materialist assumptions and open the door to a participatory universe. \n\n\nEach session will include moderated discussions and live audience Q&A. Facilitators include Andrew Davis\, Sam Kimbriel\, and Candice Olson\, each bringing their own philosophical expertise and insight to the day’s conversations. \n\n\nSpeakers for 2025 also include: David Abram\, acclaimed ecologist and author of The Spell of the Sensuous; Jeff Kripal\, leading scholar of comparative religion and author of The Flip; Jake Sherman\, Chair of Philosophy\, Cosmology and Consciousness at CIIS; Andrew Davis\, research director at the Center for Process Studies; and Sam Kimbriel\, founding director of the Aspen Institute’s Philosophy & Society Initiative. \n\n\nThe day concludes with optional attendance at the Patron’s Dinner at Sant Ambroeus\, offering a rare opportunity to dine and converse with the symposium’s speakers in an intimate setting. \n\n\nTickets are $100 for the full day\, with a 25% discount for attendees under 40 (in person). Remote tickets are also available\, and will include Q&A as well as post-event recordings. Symposium + Dinner passes are $350; full tables are available. Tickets can be purchased at aspenshowtix.com. Complimentary copies of Journey of the Universe will be available for all ticket holders while supplies last. \n\n\nJoin us for a gathering that promises not only to expand your thinking\, but to reconnect you with the awe and possibility of being alive at this moment in history. \n \n Learn More & Get Tickets

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Psychedelics\, Religion\, and Transformation
DESCRIPTION:Ligare: A Christian Psychedelic Society works at the intersection of psychedelics\, religion\, and transformation\, taking seriously the notion that reality is relational\, dynamic\, and open to novelty. Psychedelic experiences often bring a heightened sense of interconnectedness and becoming.  In this light\, psychedelics are not merely therapeutic but serve as catalysts for deeper awareness of God’s lure toward beauty and harmony. \n\n\nPsychedelic experience can offer an invitation to partner with God in the regeneration of self and community. Such experiences often dissolve rigid ego-boundaries\, opening participants to new integrations and fresh possibilities. When supported by community and theological reflection\, psychedelics attune individuals to the divine order and greater wholeness. \n\n\nLigare understands Christianity as being supple\, innovative\, and life-affirming rather than static. By weaving contemplative traditions with psychedelic insight\, Ligare help show Christian faith as an unfolding process of becoming more fully attuned to God’s aim. \n Learn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Carasoul: Animating the Imaginal Mind with Kaeti MacNeil
DESCRIPTION:In this SPARKS offering\, artist and animator Kaeti MacNeil will share the story of her award-winning short film Carasoul: a Portrait in Nth Dimensions alongside reflections first shared in her interview for the Novel Becomings blog. Carasoul explores the unseen layers of human experience\, depicting memory\, sensation\, and imagination as tangible forms that extend beyond the body. Blending stop-motion paint and digital animation\, Kaeti visualizes how consciousness takes shape in time\, and how Whitehead’s process-relational ideas resonate through artistic practice. \nFollowing the presentation and interview\, participants will be invited into a creative reflection session. Using Carasoul’s imagery and process philosophy as inspiration\, guests will reflect on a life experience through social presencing theater\, an embodiment practice with a focus on the hands and their gestures. This session offers a chance to explore one’s own moments of becoming and to share insights with the wider SPARKS community on Mighty Networks. \n \n RSVP NOW\n \nFeaturing\nRSVP for this Event\n\n"*" indicates required fields \n\n LinkedInThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged. \n\nName*\n \n First\n \n Last\n \n\nEmail*\n \n Enter Email\n \n Confirm Email\n \n\nSign up for the Center for Process Studies Newsletter\n \n Sign up for the Center for Process Studies newsletter\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nDisclaimer: By registering for and attending this event\, I grant permission to the Center for Process Studies for the rights of my image\, likeness\, and sound of my voice as recorded on audio or video in this event. SUMMARY:Possibility Spaces in Cosmology\, Biology\, and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating webinar featuring Michael Levin (Tufts University) and George F. R. Ellis (University of Cape Town)\, moderated by Andrew M. Davis (Center for Process Studies). Together\, they will explore the curious and profound question of “possibility spaces”—those unseen domains that shape what can emerge in cosmology\, biology\, and beyond. What are these possibility spaces? How do we come to know them? In what forms do they exist—and perhaps most intriguingly\, why do they exist at all? Both Levin and Ellis have argued that possibility spaces are not merely invented\, but discovered—in some sense deeply Platonic\, yet empirically discoverable through science. This conversation will examine how such spaces bridge the domains of philosophy\, physics\, and biology\, challenging our assumptions about where science ends and metaphysics begins. Are there ethical or moral dimensions to these possibility spaces? What might they reveal about the nature of mind in nature\, and the creative unfolding of the cosmos itself? Join us for a wide-ranging dialogue at the intersection of science\, philosophy\, and the deep structure of reality. \n \n RSVP Now\n \nFeaturing\nModerator\nRSVP for this Event \n\n"*" indicates required fields \n\n URLThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged. \n\nName*\n \n First\n \n Last\n \n\nEmail*\n \n Enter Email\n \n Confirm Email\n \n\nSign up for the Center for Process Studies Newsletter\n \n Sign up for the Center for Process Studies newsletter\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nDisclaimer: This event is open to the public and will be recorded. SUMMARY:World Goodwill Seminar | Envisioning a New Global Culture: The Search for Unity between East and West
DESCRIPTION:While the current phase of globalization in human affairs often uses the language of unity\, it largely reflects the prevailing culture of separation and materialism that inevitably exacerbates division. A new global culture requires a deeper era of thought\, drawing on the ancient universal values of both East and West that can guide us towards a balanced relationship between spirit and matter. \nHow can Chinese wisdom and Whitehead’s philosophy of organism help build a culture of shared humanity and hope—bridging East and West? Center for Process Studies Board Chair\, Dr. Jay McDaniel will explore this topic. Also presenting in this session of the seminar is Dr. Jack Bagby\, Assistant Professor of Philosophy\, Consciousness\, and Cosmology at the California Institute of Integral Studies.  \n \n Learn More & Register

DESCRIPTION:In this exploratory webinar\, author\, educator and aspiring therapist Travis Cox will invite participants into the project that he and his colleagues are calling “Ecopsychedelics” which is a portmanteau of the words “ecopsychology” and “psychedelics”.  Travis will first introduce the discipline of ecopsychology and then give some background into the particulars of the “ecopsychedelic” project\, including some insights he gained from teaching the first ever class on Ecopsychedelics last spring. \nDuring the webinar\, Travis will invite a dialogue into what he feels is one of the most important aspects of the psychedelic experience in general\, which is certainly central to his personal conception of ecopsychedelics: the implicit or explicit invocation of worldviews.  For Travis\, this invocation is two-fold: first is the fact that\, for many if not most people\, the scientific materialist paradigm can come into question during a psychedelic experience; second is the open-question as to whether or not the “psychedelic experience” itself has a worldview. \nThis collaborative inquiry will eventually lead to a discussion of process thought\, especially as it relates to a more “modern” understanding of animism.  This workshop is for those who are interested in the intersections of ecopsychology\, plant medicines\, and ecospirituality. \n \n Learn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Whitehead for Education\, the Humanities\, and the Social Sciences: In Pursuit of a Metamorphosis of Pedagogy
DESCRIPTION:“There is only one subject matter for education\, and that is Life in all its manifestations.” Alfred North Whitehead\, The Aims of Education: & Other Essays (1917)\, 41 \n\nThe Polish Whiteheadian community is happy to announce the upcoming conference entitled “Whitehead for Education\, the Humanities\, and the Social Sciences: In Pursuit of a Metamorphosis of Pedagogy“. It will take place in Katowice\, Poland and online on 19-20 November\, 2025.  \nOrganizational Information & Venue\nThe conference will be held in a hybrid format\, allowing for both in-person participation and online attendance via Microsoft Teams. The venue location is Katowice\, spinPLACE | University of Silesia in Katowice\, ul. Bankowa 5\, \nIntroduction\nIn times of a global polycrisis\, the current direction of the Society’s activities focuses on “interweaving” contemporary processualism into the most vital contexts of the present—especially those most sensitive to the destructive impact of a civilization founded on an outdated vision of the world. One such area is the construction of a social environment that supports the developmental and educational processes of children\, adolescents\, and young adults. \nEducation\, however\, does not take place in a vacuum—it is part of culture\, whose original function was to creatively support the human process of adaptation to Nature. Nature accessible both “from the outside” through the senses\, and “from within” in inner experience. Whitehead’s process philosophy offers a way to re-integrate education and culture into the broadest cosmological context of understanding reality. It also sets new standards for culture—including pedagogical culture. Are we capable of meeting these standards in an age when the primary function of both education and culture has become adaptation to… culture (and technology)? \nThe main inspiration behind this anniversary conference is the book published last year by Professor Lech Witkowski\, titled Whitehead. Naddania i (w)zrosty dla humanistyki i edukacji [Whitehead. Superjects and Concrescences for the Humanities and Education] (Adam Marszałek Publishing House\, 2024\, 496 pages). This ambitious work “interweaves” Alfred North Whitehead’s process philosophy into various currents of contemporary humanities and social sciences. In engaging critically with existing interpretations of Whitehead’s thought\, the author demonstrates how slow its reception has been\, and how prone it remains to overly hasty readings. The book introduces several key processual concepts into pedagogical discourse\, showing how Whitehead’s philosophy of organism provides robust\, rational\, and at the same time flexible interpretative frameworks for both pedagogy and the humanities more broadly. At the same time\, the book stands as an example of scholarly work conducted within the processual paradigm\, offering insight into the inner dynamics of the event that is the writing of a book—an event which ultimately becomes a transformative experience for the author himself. The theses presented in the book will be discussed by invited panelists during a special session of the conference. \nUse the button below to view the conference schedule and the directions for virtual attendance. \n \n View Conference Schedule\n \n Program Committee\nProf. Dariusz Kubok – Director of the Institute of Philosophy\, University of Silesia in KatowiceProf. Krzysztof Maliszewski – Associate Professor at the Institute of Pedagogy\, University of Silesia in KatowiceBogdan Ogrodnik\, PhD – President of The Whitehead Metaphysical Society\, KatowiceProf. Andrzej Wierciński – Faculty of Artes Liberales\, Warsaw University\, President of International Institute for HermeneuticsProf. Lech Witkowski – Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology\, Pomeranian University in Słupsk \nOrganizational Committee\nProf. Dariusz Kubok – Director of the Institute of Philosophy\, University of Silesia in KatowiceBogdan Ogrodnik\, PhD – President of The Whitehead Metaphysical Society\, KatowiceGrzegorz Piekarski\, PhD – Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology\, Pomeranian University in Słupsk \nCall for papers\nWe invite conference participants\, and anyone interested in the topics of the conference to submit their papers for publication in a special issue (section) of Folia Philosophica journal indexed in SCOPUS\, published by the Institute of Philosophy in Katowice. \nEditorial staff: University of Silesia in Katowice (folia.philosophica@us.edu.pl) \nMore information about the journal can be found here. \nInvitation to Become a Member of the Metaphysical Society\nJust after the conference ends\, at 2:00 p.m.\, a short (approx. 1 hour) extraordinary general meeting of the Metaphysical Society will begin. SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: The Death of Supernaturalism
DESCRIPTION:In Chad Bahl’s newest book\, The Death of Supernaturalism: The Case for Process Naturalism\, Chad Bahl offers a bold theological manifesto that critiques the metaphysical assumptions of supernatural theism. He demonstrates the incompatibility between the supernaturalistic worldview and the scientific worldview\, and maintains that supernaturalism perpetuates rather than solves the problems of theodicy and divine hiddenness.  \nAs a solution\, Bahl argues for a process naturalist view of God—one which sees God as relational\, persuasive and embedded within the natural world. Bahl is an emerging voice in the process theology community. In this Process Pop-Up\, we’ll explore the core ideas in this text. \nLearn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Cultivating the Future University: Eco-Art\, Healing\, and Pedagogy in the Healing Garden
DESCRIPTION:In this SPARKS Exchange\, artist and educator Lipeng Jin invites you into the story of the “Healing Garden”—an evolving eco-art and pedagogical experiment at the Sichuan Fine Art Institute\, China. More than a campus garden\, the Healing Garden is a living laboratory reimagining the university’s role in an era of ecological crisis: How can higher education become a force for planetary healing and community renewal? \nDrawing inspiration from Thomas Berry’s vision of the University as a bridge to the Universe\, the Healing Garden brings the living world—soil\, water\, plants\, animals\, and people—into the heart of academic life. The project moves beyond symbolic gestures\, engaging students and faculty in hands-on acts of ecological and social repair: composting campus waste into fertile earth\, co-creating mandala gardens and mobile chicken coops\, and transforming kitchens into spaces of communal care and ritual. Through practices of permaculture\, social sculpture\, and deep listening\, the Healing Garden models a “future university” as a sensory organ and steward for its local bioregion\, nurturing both inner and outer landscapes. \nJoin us to explore how art\, ecology\, and education can converge to cultivate hope\, resilience\, and belonging in our time of planetary transition. \nSPARKS Exchange is a monthly online gathering that features a presentation by and dialogue with an artist\, as well as an interactive art exchange in which attendees have the opportunity to participate in an activity that sparks their creativity. SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Evolution in Divine Love
DESCRIPTION:In his newest book\, Evolution in Divine Love: The Eternal Becoming of God\, Soul\, and Matter\, Gaudiya Vaishnava monk and spiritual teacher Swami Padmanabha offers a visionary and poetic exploration of love as the dynamic power at the heart of the Divine\, soul\, and matter. Drawing from Hindu Devotional Vedanta\, psychology\, modern science\, and mystical insights from multiple traditions\, he reimagines the spiritual journey as a process of ever-deepening relationship—with the Divine\, with the world\, and with our evolving selves. \nFar from portraying divinity as distant or static\, Swami Padmanabha encourages us to see Ultimate Reality as both changeless and ever-new\, infinite and intimate\, perfect and perpetually becoming—animated by the same love that pulses through every corner of creation. Through this lens\, he invites us to view reality not as a closed system\, but as a living\, breathing process of growth\, beauty\, and co-creative transformation. \nIn this Process Pop-Up\, Swami Padmanabha will discuss the ideas in Evolution in Divine Love. Whether you’re a spiritual seeker\, interfaith explorer\, psychologist\, theologian\, or simply someone yearning to live from a deeper source\, he offers a radical invitation: to see the cosmos—and yourself—as an ever-unfolding love story. \n \n Learn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:John B. Cobb Jr.: An Eco-Sage of Our Time | Online Memorial Gathering
DESCRIPTION:To mark the first anniversary of the passing of John B. Cobb Jr.\, this online memorial gathering is convened to honor his life\, his enduring legacy\, and the living influence of his thought. It will offer a quiet and heartfelt space for remembrance\, reflection\, and gratitude as well. Simultaneous interpretation in English and Chinese will be provided. \nOne year has passed since John left us physically\, yet his presence has not faded. If anything\, it has become more deeply felt—through the questions we continue to ask\, the commitments we continue to hold\, and the paths we are still trying to walk with integrity and care. This first anniversary feels like a particularly meaningful moment to pause together\, to remember him\, and to reflect on how his life and thought continue to guide us. \nThis commemoration is not intended as a formal memorial alone\, but as a shared space of remembrance\, gratitude\, and renewed orientation. We hope to honor John not only by recalling his extraordinary contributions as a thinker and teacher\, but also by acknowledging how he shaped us as colleagues\, companions\, and fellow travelers committed to the well-being of life on Earth. \nMeijun FanChina Project Co-DirectorCenter for Process Studies \nAgenda\n\nOpening & Moment of Silence\nWhy We Gather\nA Life of Thought and Practice\nPersonal Remembrances\nCobb’s Relevance for Our Time\nTrusting Life: A Shared Moment\nCarrying Forward\nClosing\n\n  \nRSVP for this Event \n\n"*" indicates required fields \n\n EmailThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged. \n\nName*\n \n First\n \n Last\n \n\nEmail*\n \n Enter Email\n \n Confirm Email\n \n\nSign up for the Center for Process Studies Newsletter\n \n Sign up for the Center for Process Studies newsletter

SUMMARY:Interweavings: Deep Listening: Dynamic Practices and Living Texts
DESCRIPTION:How might ancient texts speak to us afresh today? Can pre–modern practices be revitalized and re-imagined to address modern concerns? \nRabbi Leila Gal Berner and Sheri D. Kling strongly believe that there is still something life-giving in both ancient texts and pre-modern practices\, and that both can come alive in dynamic ways while still being grounded in timeless wisdom. \nOnce Rabbi Berner was introduced to the Christian contemplative practice of lectio divina—a Latin phrase meaning “sacred reading”—she immediately fell in love with its ability to drop her into a living experience of biblical text. She wanted other Jews to have that same experience\, and created a uniquely Jewish expression of lectio divina that she has named Kriat Hakodesh (Reading the Holy) reflected in her book\, Listening to the Heart of Genesis: A Contemplative Path.  \nSheri Kling has had similar experiences with Christian contemplative practices\, and has refashioned three of them—lectio divina\, praying with icons\, and praying with the imagination—into a transreligious practice she calls Dream Divina. While the target of contemplation in her practice is one’s individual dream and its images\, the underlying spiritual “technologies” of the Christian practices still carry the same power to reveal the presence of the Sacred. \nIn this event\, Rabbi Berner and Dr. Kling will share their own experiences with reshaping traditional practices to reawaken modern sensibilities to potentially transforming encounters with texts and with the Divine. \n \n Learn More & RSVP
