After reviewing the development of the concept of Ecological Civilization, which was presented as a vital concern for both China and USA, Professor Cobb dedicated this 17th EcoForum—and the first to convene in-person since the pandemic—as an occasion to launch an energetic new trans-Pacific dialogue between these two great nations.

Metaphysics and the Matter with Things was a well spring of humanity. Anchored by the work of psychiatrist and literary scholar Dr. Iain McGilchrist, the conference took its namesake from his recently published two volume set, The Matter with Things. McGilchrist’s masterwork presents a compelling case for what he terms “the hemisphere hypothesis” by demonstrating with exhaustive evidence the phenomenological distinctions between the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

On June 9th, 2023, Pacific Time, the 15th “John Cobb Common Good Award” ceremony was successfully held, honoring Dr. Shi Yan, the Representative of China New Farmers, for her work as a leading figure in promoting the CSA movement in China. The “John Cobb Common Good Award” is the highest award in the field of global ecological philosophy and ecological civilization.

On 1 April, during the 28th episode of Cobb Eco-Academy Lectures, Ms. Maria Alonso, founder of Huerta del Valle-Organic Farm in Ontario,California, USA, shared with the audience the story of her organic community garden and urban farm Huerta del Valle. She was nominated and selected as the Ontario Woman of the Year in 2018 for her inspiring journey toward healthy food, healthy living, and a happy community.

22nd Common Good Film Festival Wrap-Up

The 22nd annual Common Good Film Festival has come to a close! From February 17-20, we showed a diverse array of ten feature films and five short films that took us from Korea to Israel to Canada and everywhere in between. In our first year hosting the festival at the Claremont Laemmle, CGFF is proud to have extended our film screenings to the wider Claremont community, and to host thought-provoking discussions after each.

The 50th Anniversary Conference of the Center for Process Studies | Conference Retrospect

Featuring 36 presentations and 12 moderated panel discussions, the event aimed to not only celebrate the past, but also look to the future in the context of a new generation of process thinkers, those whose work and influence are forging the next 50 years. The conference gathered a truly eclectic group of young scholars and seasoned moderators from multiple continents and with distinctive expertise and research trajectories. It was deliberately structured in order to capture the profound interdisciplinary nature of process thought and its relevance to multiple domains of thought and practice.

Chinese Will Remember David Griffin, the Ecosopher of Our Time, Forever

December 30, 2022, a special memorial service for the late world known constructive postmodern thinker Dr. David Griffin was held online by the Institute for Postmodern Development of China (IPDC) and the Center for Process Studies (CPS). The event was gathered with scholars and thinkers from China and the US to honor David Griffin’s academic legacy and impact.

The Second Living Earth Youth Dialogue

On January 6, 2023, the 2nd Sharing From the Heart – Living Earth Youth Dialogues was held successfully via Zoom Meeting. More than 100 people from China and the United States participated the dialogue, during which American youth Alexi Caracotsios shared his observations and insights on the long-standing “pandemic” in American society, loneliness and isolation, with the theme of “City, Community and Loneliness”.
