William Rubel

William Rubel, PhD is an associate professor and department lead in philosophy, literature, and mythology. Mentored at Columbia University by pioneering ecocritic (and brother of Ursula K. Le Guin) Karl Kroeber, his dissertation Romancing Modernity: Poetry, Process, and Postsecularism (UBC, 2018) forged new contexts in romantic studies and process philosophy. He has been a visiting scholar at Amherst College (Amherst, MA) and at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (Sarnath, India), and a recipient of a Francisco J. Varela Award from the Mind and Life Institute. He has a forthcoming chapter, “Joyce, Whitehead, Blake, and the Transmissions of Counter-Modernity” in Understanding Whitehead, Understanding Modernism (Bloomsbury), and has been published in Process Studies, Joyland Magazine, Blake, an Illustrated Quarterly, and Vala, the Journal of the Blake Society. A playwright and current MFA candidate in Creative Writing and Theatre at the University of British Columbia, his latest project is a work of Blakean eco-theatre, entitled Robin Redbreast in a Cage with performances scheduled for spring 2026.
