In this presentation, Zaineb Baddouri will engage in an exploratory discussion of the Karkariyya Order and the central message of its living teacher, Shaykh Al-Karkari. The Shaykh emphasizes the processual, direct witnessing of the Divine Presence as Light as mode and method of the student’s journey toward self-knowledge, ethical formation, and transcendence of consciousness. Through daily meditative practice, sincere action, and seven foundational techniques, students of the Karkariyya embark on an inner and outer journey of transformation and purification.

In this presentation, Mrs. Baddouri will provide a comprehensive overview of the Shaykh’s teachings, his personal journey to God and how this has subsequently influenced his pedagogical practice, along with sharing her experience as a long time student of the Karkariyya. Her discussion will draw from her personal experiences as a woman in a spiritual community, her own dreams and visions, and her rediscovery of her love for God and creation, beyond religious dogmatism and difference.
