How Does a Colorblind Photographer Feel with Their Eyes?
Most people know Thomas Jay Oord as a theologian. Some know of him as a photographer. In SEER, Oord combines theology and photography to explore nature and love.
Weaving process themes about change, feeling, and a dynamic deity, Oord shares his thoughts on spirituality when hiking and photographing in the natural world. He also shares the struggles he’s faced and how nature helps him cope. This beautifully produced movie explores themes of love in a way both theists and atheists will find attractive.
In this SPARKS Exchange, we will be exploring how a colorblind photographer feels with his eyes, and how we can apply this to how we navigate our own creative process. Tom will share clips from this documentary as a window into his creative process. The session will also feature a visual meditation inviting participants to feel with their eyes and shine light upon their own creative process.

Thomas Jay Oord
Thomas Jay Oord, PhD is a theologian, philosopher, and scholar of multi-disciplinary studies. Oord directs the Center for Open and Relational Theology and doctoral students at Northwind Theological Seminary. He is an award-winning author and has written or edited more than fifty books. A gifted speaker, Oord lectures at universities, conferences, churches, and institutions. He is known for his contributions to research on love, science and religion, open and relational theology, the problem of suffering, and advocacy for the full inclusion of queer people.
