The Love of Nature and the Nature of Love
The love of nature has been a neglected subject in love studies. This book seeks to help remedy that by featuring leading voices in science and spirituality. Essayists focus on the other-than-human domain of life, drawing from various sources of wisdom. Some essays are profoundly personal; others draw from scientific or religious sources. The beautiful diversity illustrates well the book’s endeavor to explore what it means to love nature and what love itself entails. Contributors include Maria Aro Basile, Richard Bauckham, Teri Ditslear, Celia Deane-Drummond, Yudit Kornberg Greenberg, Timothy Howles, Matthew T. Lee, Jay McDaniel, Timothy A. Middleton, Saida Mirsadri, Thomas Jay Oord, Stephen G. Post, Bethany Sollereder, and Randy S. Woodley. These essays were commissioned by the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love, directed by Stephen G. Post. The book was made possible by the Vincent and Cecelia Jeffries Trust. And the overall project had its beginning and fulfillment in the two major conferences convened at Linacre College in Oxford, UK. These essays provide insights into loving nature that will inform and inspire readers to cherish the world, with its wild and wonderful creatures.

Thomas Jay Oord, PhD is a theologian, philosopher, and scholar of multi-disciplinary studies. Oord directs the Center for Open and Relational Theology and doctoral students at Northwind Theological Seminary. He is an award-winning author and has written or edited more than fifty books. A gifted speaker, Oord lectures at universities, conferences, churches, and institutions. He is known for his contributions to research on love, science and religion, open and relational theology, the problem of suffering, and advocacy for the full inclusion of queer people.
