Fellipe dos Anjos Pereira

Fellipe dos Anjos is a PhD student in Religion and Society at Drew Theological School and a fellow of the Hispanic Theological Initiative. He was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fellipe holds a bachelor’s degree in theology and a master’s and doctorate in religious sciences from the Methodist University of São Paulo, Brazil. His master’s thesis examined how the security forces in Rio de Janeiro have employed the sacrificial narratives of Christianity to legitimize violence against Black youth in favelas. He investigated the interplay between religion, race, militarization, neoliberalism, and theories of sacrifice to illustrate how race is central to contemporary bio-necropolitics in Brazil. To broaden his research on religion and violence to include ecological and environmental concerns, Fellipe came to Drew University. He is also interested in ecology, cosmology, coloniality, environmental justice, afro-amerindian perspectivism, process and difference philosophies, theory of religion, political theology, and eschatology.
