New global initiative launches with a distinctive Master of Arts in Education focused on whole-person, process-relational education for an ecological civilization
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — September 23, 2026 — Claremont School of Theology (CST), in collaboration with the Center for Process Studies (CPS), today announced the launch of Claremont International University (CIU), a new educational initiative bringing a distinctive process-relational and globally engaged approach to graduate education.
CIU will launch with a Master of Arts in Education designed for educators and educational leaders seeking new approaches to teaching and learning in a world marked by accelerating change and deepening interdependence. Grounded in process-relational thought and a whole-person approach to education, the program places particular emphasis on the role of education in contributing to the emergence of an ecological civilization—one committed to human and planetary flourishing. Applications are now open for the inaugural Spring 2027 cohort.
“Claremont School of Theology has always understood education as something that reaches beyond borders—religious, cultural, intellectual, and geographic,” said Dr. Jeffrey Kuan, Co-President of Claremont School of Theology. “Claremont International University gives us an exciting new way to extend that commitment to students around the world and in important fields beyond theology.”
CIU builds on Claremont School of Theology’s more than 140-year tradition of graduate education and the international influence of process-relational thought associated with philosopher Alfred North Whitehead and interdisciplinary thinker John B. Cobb, Jr. Their work offers a vision of reality centered on relationship, interdependence, creativity, and becoming—ideas that provide an important foundation for rethinking education in the twenty-first century.

The launch of CIU reflects the growing commitment of CST and CPS to developing educational programs and international partnerships that address pressing global challenges and prepare learners to contribute constructively to a more sustainable and interconnected future.
Claremont International University is a California-based graduate education institution operating under the accreditation of the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). The Center for Process Studies serves as a key academic partner in the development of CIU and its educational programs.
